Business and commercial Electric Vehicle Charging Solutions

Commercial electric vehicle charging while working from home

Working from Home

If you are one of the thousands of registered businesses in the UK that operate from home there are grants available under the Government’s Workplace Charge Scheme (WCS), to assist with the costs of installing electric vehicle chargers at your home address.

We can guide you through the grant process and check your eligibility as well as show you a variety of charger brands. Based on our years of experience as installers and working with many of the top manufacturers will only recommend equipment that we know is tried and tested.

Working on your behalf to secure permission from the District Network Operator to install your charger; making the necessary arrangements to have your property “unlooped” if necessary, we will walk you through every step of the installation process.

For more information about the grants available, see the links below or contact us.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • That’s an easy one…you just call us and we’ll and advise you on all your EV charging options. From initial consultation and design of an EV charging system that suits your requirements, to a fully installed and commissioned network of EV chargers, we will guide you through every step of the journey. Whether it’s one EV charger or an entire fleet, we’ll have a solution for you.

  • Every workplace is powered differently, and no two company’s needs are the same. Depending on your EV charging requirements, and if your supply is quite limited, an upgrade may be required. In most instances, however, we are able to work within the limits of the existing supply and design a system that balances and shares the available power across multiple EV chargers and the rest of the business, enabling more vehicles to be charged than would otherwise be possible, whist also protected the distribution equipment form overloading. If you do require a power upgrade we can work alongside you, or on your behalf, arranging surveys, quotes and necessary upgrade work from the District Network Operator.

  • Charging an electric car is considerably cheaper than filling a traditional vehicle with fuel. The cost of charging can vary, depending on your electricity tariff and the size of the battery in your electric vehicle, but taking a vehicle with a battery size of around 50kWh and assuming that your electricity tariff is 26 pence per kWh you’d be paying 0.26 x 50 which would be £13 to fill from empty to full. Depending on your vehicle’s range capacity, this could give you a range of around 150-180 miles (based on WTLP figures). Click here to use our charge calculators to work out exactly how much it would cost to charge.

  • There are many factors that influence the charge time of electric vehicles in the workplace. The most relevant being the capacity of the individual EV charger and also the maximum power available to all the EV chargers in that network. Commercial EV chargers are usually 22kW which can offer charge speeds up to three times faster than home EV chargers. It all depends on the type of vehicle, the supply capacity at your workplace and the number of other vehicles charging simultaneously. We can advise you on all this when designing your installation.

  • You would not be required to change energy provider when you install EV chargers. However, many companies find that they can get more competitive tariffs when they shop around; so, it is always worth investigating.

  • There are a few different grants currently available to companies installing EV chargers under the Government’s Workplace Charge Scheme (WCS) grant initiative. Whether it’s just a single EV charger or a larger network there would be a grant to suit most businesses. Click here to visit our grants page and find out which would be relevant to you, or if you need any more information, contact us and we will let you know what you may be eligible for.

  • Yes. Companies can allow the general public to access their EV chargers. and set rates accordingly. All modern Electric Vehicle Chargers are OCPP (open charge point protocol) compliant, meaning that they can all be used with various back-end software that can manage billing and user access on behalf of owner/operators.
